Ever heard of Indie R’n’B!?
I am currently listening to such kind of music, but to be honest, I had no idea that a term was invented for it. So what’s it all about “Indie R’n’B”!? To be straight forward, it’s simply a re-definition of classical R’n’B.
Smooth, mainly male vocals and lyrical themes similar to those of classic tunes: People having fun, partying all night long, hangovers, doing drugs, etc. However, the main difference can be found in the musical composition and the largely melancholic mood of the tracks.
Indie R’n’B beats are less related to bass-heavy hip hop styles, but are more going into the direction of electronic dubstep. Artists of this genre are for instance Frank Ocean, Drake, The Weeknd and an up-and-coming German artist called Tua whose music I really do admire.
